According to NBA source Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker will miss seven to ten days due to an ankle issue.
Booker sprained his right ankle on March 2 against the Houston Rockets.
The Suns lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 3 without Booker, who is averaging 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season while shooting 49.4% from the field, 37.9% from beyond the arc, and 88.0% from the free throw line.
Phoenix is 35-26 during the season. The team is ranked sixth in the Western Conference rankings.
“We got time, but we can’t keep saying we got time,” Suns guard Bradley Beal said after the Thunder’s loss. “We just have (21) games left. It’s a terrific number of games to get us moving, especially before the playoffs. I believe that will be extremely beneficial to us, but we must get started right away. We can’t keep discussing it. We have to do it. We have to take this steamroller head on.”
The Suns are 13th in the NBA in points per game and 16th in points allowed. If the season ended today, Phoenix would enter the play-in tournament.
The Suns were eliminated from the 2023 playoffs in the second round by the Denver Nuggets in six games. Last summer, they acquired both Beal from the Washington Wizards and Jusuf Nurkic from the Portland Trail Blazers.
The “Big 4” of Booker, Beal, Nurkic, and Kevin Durant were projected to compete for this year’s championship. It will be interesting to watch if the Suns make the 2024 playoffs.
If Phoenix makes the playoffs, Booker, Durant, Beal, and Nurkic must perform at a high level for the team to win the championship.
