Football Insider reports that Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton is close to signing a contract extension with the club.
The Brazilian international was injured during Newcastle’s victory against Sunderland in January, forcing him to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
Joelinton’s future at the club has been the subject of debate since his current contract is set to end next summer.
Previous reports indicated that negotiations for a new agreement were beginning, although there were substantial differences in the two parties’ stances.
However, according to Football Insider, Newcastle United’s ownership group, the Saudi PIF, has stepped up talks to secure Joelinton’s future.
Senior members of the club are apparently willing to accommodate the player’s demands and conclude a new contract.
Newcastle’s manager has also recently underlined the importance of keeping Joelinton, emphasising his value to the squad.
Joelinton has been an important character for Newcastle United since joining the club in 2019 for an estimated sum of £40 million.
He has made 180 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists.
