Napoli, Juventus, and Lazio are also interested in the Bolgona star, who continues to amaze with each passing game in Italy’s top flight.
Lewis Ferguson is at the centre of an incredible transfer battle, with FIVE of Italy’s top teams bidding £20 million or more for his services.
Reports in Italy alleged Champions League strong guns. This summer, Napoli has made a move to outbid Juventus for the 24-year-old Bologna player. However, Record Sport knows that three more Serie A clubs – AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Lazio – have made contact with Ferguson’s agent, veteran dealmaker Bill McMurdo, as the fight for one of the league’s most sought-after players heats up ahead of the next transfer window.
McMurdo has previously conducted talks with Bologna after the club rejected several January proposals for the former Hamilton and Aberdeen midfielder. And, despite heightened interest, they have decided to keep their Scottish captain, thinking Ferguson can lead their fourth-placed club into European contention the next season.
However, Napoli owner Aurielo De Laurentiis is thought to have picked Ferguson as his top target ahead of a summer team reconstruction, and he is personally leading the campaign to sign him. It is thought that a bid of roughly 25 million euros (around £21.5 million) will be sufficient to compel Bologna to negotiate, and Juve is also willing to match that price.
The Turin giants have been following Ferguson since the conclusion of last season, when he signed a lucrative contract deal with Bologna. They will try again when the market reopens for business in June.
However, Inter, AC, and Lazio have all asked McMurdo to keep them updated on Ferguson’s condition, and all three might yet enter the market if Bologna is convinced to cash in on their most precious asset. Ferguson has six goals and four assists in 27 Serie A appearances this season, establishing himself as one of the country’s most prominent offensive midfielders.
Bologna may wait in the hopes of receiving an even larger monetary bid from England’s Premier League, but it is claimed the player has already expressed to the club his wish to remain in the Italian top flight for the foreseeable future.
And Napoli chairman De Laurentiis is seeking to get ahead of the competition by offering Ferguson a personal assurance of regular playing time if the Scotland international accepts a move to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
