Olivier Giroud (37) is expected to leave AC Milan when his contract expires in June and join MLS club Los Angeles FC, according to a report published Friday by L’Equipe. Giroud would rejoin in California with his former France teammate and close friend Hugo Lloris, who joined Los Angeles FC at the beginning of the year. It means France’s record goalscorer with Les Bleus, with 56 goals, will be paired with France’s most-capped player (145).
The outlet understands that paperwork still needs to be completed before Giroud’s anticipated move to Los Angeles FC. The MLS club has pushed for weeks to persuade Giroud to cross the Atlantic, ending a brilliant career in Europe. In addition to his 2018 World Cup and 2021 Nations League victories with France, the centre-forward has won the 2012 Ligue 1 title with Montpellier, four FA Cups with Arsenal and Chelsea, and the 2019 Europa League and 2021 Champions League with the Blues. After impressing under Thomas Tuchel, Giroud joined AC Milan and helped the Rossoneri win the Serie A title in his first season in Italy.
At 37, Giroud remains a consistent goalscorer, having scored 14 times this season for Stefano Pioli’s team, which is still on track to win the Europa League. The ChambĂ©ry-born striker is presently on international duty with France. Euro 2024 in Germany is set to be his final tournament with Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus. According to L’Equipe, Giroud is unlikely to play in the Paris Games football event with Thierry Henry’s Under-23 team due to his move to LAFC.
