A few of weeks ago, it was reported in Belgium that Leicester City had a concrete interest in Mandela Keita and could move further with a transaction.
Southampton are now thought to be pursuing the 22-year-old midfielder, and there are strong indications that the Saints may move further with their interest.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Southampton have made an offer to Royal Antwerp for the teenage midfielder. The Saints’ offer included a loan for the remainder of the season as well as a buy provision that was necessary under certain conditions.
It’s unclear, but one of those criteria is that Southampton stay in the Premier League after this season.
Royal Antwerp has rejected the offer, but is seen as being open to negotiations and making progress on the move. These terms may be critical in determining whether or not this negotiation proceeds.
If that doesn’t work, the player’s agents might attempt Ipswich Town next, with a move to the Premier League via a freshly promoted side appearing to be on the cards.
