Arsenal should not be ruled out in the race to land Chelsea target Victor Osimhen’s signature during the upcoming summer transfer window, and they are willing to meet his £250,000 per-week demands.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs (via GIVEMESPORT), there will be a heated war for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s services this summer. The Gunners, along with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, are among the frontrunners to sign the Nigerian international, and they are willing to satisfy his high salary demands.
Throughout his tenure in Naples, the Nigerian international has been a world-class performer. The 25-year-old striker scored 26 goals in 32 Serie A matches last season to lead Napoli to a long-awaited league title, and he has nine goals and three assists in 19 games across all competitions this season.
However, one imagines he will leave Napoli this summer, as it will be extremely difficult for them to keep their star player following a dismal Scudetto defence this season.
Despite just signing a contract extension with Napoli, he appears to be on his way out, with numerous big European clubs interested in signing him.
Chelsea, for example, have long admired the Napoli striker. The Blues have spent more than £1 billion since a Todd Boehly-led group took control the club in May 2022, but they have yet to sign a prolific striker.
Paris Saint-Germain are the most recent team to enter the contest, following Kylian Mbappe’s decision to depart France at the end of the season. The Nigerian is regarded as the best candidate to replace the French superstar’s productivity up front.
Arsenal emerge as strong candidates in the Victor Osimhen race.
However, Jacobs argues that Arsenal’s bid for Osimhen should not be discounted, despite the fact that Chelsea appears to have an advantage and PSG is also actively pursuing the Nigerian attacker. The Super Eagles striker is looking for a weekly wage of about £250,000, which all three clubs vying for his services consider fair.
Jacobs told GMS: “We can’t count out Arsenal in the fight for Osimhen. It is also true that PSG has Osimhen at the top of their list of objectives and can move in the market because Kylian Mbappe’s exit will free up funds. According to insiders, Osimhen’s top priority remains the Premier League, which is good news for Chelsea and Arsenal. He would ask for around £250,000 per week, which Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG would all be willing to pay.”
Despite a generally positive campaign in the Premier League, a number of analysts and former players have questioned Arsenal’s chances to win the title this season, with only Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as striker alternatives.
However, Mikel Arteta is also hoping to bring in a new striker this summer. If they can recruit a world-class attacking player like Osimhen, it may be a serious game.
