Newcastle United Top Choice To Replace Dan Ashworth

Newcastle United are looking for a replacement for Dan Ashworth, who is leaving to join Manchester United, and they may look to West Ham United to fill the vacancy.

Ashworth is poised to take the post at Old Trafford after informing Newcastle that he wants to join Manchester United. He has since been placed on gardening leave at Newcastle ahead of his departure.

Newcastle are looking for a new sporting director. According to 90Min, the Toon’s shortlist includes four people, with Paul Mitchell at the top of the list. He impressed at both Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, there are three others being considered. Brentford’s Phil Giles, Roma manager Tiago Pinto, and West Ham’s Tim Steidten. The German only became West Ham’s transfer chief last summer.

His links to Xabi Alonso have already led to speculation that he could join Liverpool. It is thought he would find it difficult to turn down a move to Anfield, and he has spoken about the possibility.

Newcastle could raid West Ham for sporting director Tim Steidten

Steidten might wind up at Newcastle less than a year after joining West Ham. It is unclear how much compensation Newcastle would have to pay the Hammers to hire the German manager.

Pinto has impressed at Roma over the years, while Giles has led Brentford to success, working effectively with Bees manager Thomas Frank. Mitchell is currently the odds-on favourite to land the gig.

It’s unknown what Steidten would think about a move to Newcastle, but the promise of a big transfer budget, albeit limited by Financial Fairplay, will undoubtedly entice the former Leverkusen player.
