Newcastle United could have reportedly made contact over the signing of a 6’3″ powerhouse defender after his club lower their demands.
As reported this morning, Ousmane Diomande has changed agents ahead of the summer trading season, which is often a sign of a player attempting to push a move.
Sporting CP has Diomande under contract until 2027, and his deal includes a £68 million release clause, putting the ball squarely in their court when it comes to making demands.
However, A Bola reports that Sporting would be willing to begin negotiations closer to the £42 million to £50 million threshold, as previously stated.
Ousmane Diomande has some big clubs chasing him
According to A Bola, several Premier League and Italian clubs are interested in the 20-year-old, but Newcastle has made contact with Sporting about a potential transfer.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Juventus are also interested, which presents Newcastle with a problem because they can all give Diomande European football next season.
We stated this morning that we couldn’t see Newcastle spending £68 million on a defender, and to be honest, even £42 million may be out of reach.
Newcastle could be willing to go all-out for Diomande
However, Newcastle have expressed interest in £60 million Michael Olise, implying that the money isn’t as tight as we’re all being led to believe.
Newcastle have been tracking Diomande, who has been dubbed one of the’most promising young talents in Europe’ by Football Talent Scout, for quite some time, and they may be willing to pay a premium to lure him to Tyneside.
Regardless of the amount, getting Diomande to join Newcastle above the other interested parties that can offer European football will make things very difficult for the Magpies, but not impossible.
