BREAKING NEWS: Newcastle United target 30-year-old star for fresh deal

Newcastle United are interested in signing Nikita Parris, an England striker, from Women’s Super League club Manchester United. The freshly promoted Women’s Championship team is looking to sign a striker to improve their prospects of making the WSL, and they are targeting the 71-cap Lioness.

If Newcastle were to sign the 30-year-old, a transfer fee would be necessary, as Manchester United exercised an option in Parris’ contract this summer, triggering a one-year extension until 2025.

Parris, who was born in Liverpool and has 17 international goals, has been with Manchester United since 2022. She also represented Team GB in the Tokyo Olympics. The former Manchester City, Lyon, and Arsenal forward began her career at Everton and was named the Football Writers’ Association’s women’s footballer of the year in 2019. She was also a member of England’s Euro 2022 winning squad.

Newcastle are new to the Championship, but they are ambitious and keen to reach the top tier in the women’s pyramid. They believe that adding a goalscorer with Parris’ pedigree will be critical in their pursuit of a third consecutive promotion after winning titles in tier four in 2022-23 and tier three last season.

Becky Langley’s side has added numerous high-profile, experienced international players this summer, including left-back Demi Stokes, who left Manchester City this summer and was also a member of England’s Euro 2022 squad.

toThey’ve also signed Northern Ireland midfielder Rachel Furness and ex-Chelsea and Reading defender Deanna Cooper, both past WSL title winners. Shania Hayles, a Jamaican forward, has also joined the north-east club this summer, and their work is far from done.

Parris was Manchester United’s highest scorer in the WSL last season, with eight league goals, and she added eight more in cup tournaments to finish with 16 in total.

Other Championship clubs have made a number of big-name acquisitions this summer as they compete for the division’s solitary promotion berth, including London City Lionesses’ eye-catching move to sign 35-year-old Sweden great Kosovare Asllani.
