Lazio are preparing a bid for promising Argentine Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, but may face competition from Flamengo of Brazil.
The 21-year-old has recently been added to Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani’s wishlist as the Biancocelesti strive to strengthen their midfield department with one more signing. The Argentine can play in the centre of the pitch or behind the striker.
Lazio to Launch an Official Bid for Alcaraz
According to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio will shortly offer the English club with a formal bid. The Italian capital club is aiming to sign Alcaraz on a loan deal with the option to buy at the conclusion of the season. The agreement would include a buy-back option in favour of the Saints, who would be willing to accept this formula.
However, as the source points out, Lazio’s present objective is to recruit Boulaye Dia from Salernitana and then offload the deadwood to make place for a new signing. This includes Matteo Cancellieri and Toma Basic.
Flamengo Trying to Secure the Argentine’s Services
Furthermore, Ge Globo (via LazioNews24) believes that Flamengo poses a threat to Lazio’s intentions, as the Brazilian giants are also vying for Alcaraz. The Mengao have reportedly offered €18 million to get the Argentine back to South America.
Alcaraz spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Juventus, but he failed to generate results. As a result, the Bianconeri chose not to continue his services indefinitely. The midfielder’s contract with Southampton runs until June 2028.
