Newcastle United only made one signing during the January transfer window, bringing in someone who could have a very bright future on Tyneside.
Newcastle United signed Alfie Harrison from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, with the 18-year-old agreeing to a deal that may cost the club £3.5 million in add-ons.
The aim is that he will develop into a first-team star at St James’ Park, which is one of the reasons he decided to leave Manchester City and move to the North East. He was given a clear road to the senior side, which he is currently following.
He earned his Newcastle debut this weekend, playing in the Under-21s’ 2-1 loss to Liverpool.
He has now played for the Under-18s, and Wednesday night was a memorable match against his former team, Manchester City.
Alfie Harrison scores for Newcastle United Under-18s
Alfie Harrison made his Newcastle Under-18s debut on Wednesday night, away to the club from which he was signed.
The Toon kids went up against Manchester City and lost 4-2 on the road. They recovered from a 2-0 deficit, but conceded two late goals to lose.
Harrison scored one of Newcastle’s goals, and he is currently playing in black and white. The midfielder was prolific at Manchester City’s youth level and will want to replicate that for Newcastle.
Harrison scored the Magpies’ first goal of the night, a powerful shot with his left foot that found the bottom right corner. It was a smart finish, and hopefully the first of many goals for the club. He came close on other occasions, including striking the woodwork upon his return to Manchester City.
While the game ended in defeat, Harrison made a solid debut for the Under-18s. He arrived with a lot of potential, and he will undoubtedly be one to watch in the years ahead.
